For good Chinese takeout I go to Hung Yuen on 22nd between Bartlett and Valencia. Their trilingual (Chinese-English-Spanish) menu is very amusing, and the food is quite good. You can even watch Hung Granny making the pot stickers by hand.

I like Wild Pepper on 26th at San Jose. They also deliver for free, with free chow mein or fried rice if you order 2 entrees.

I seriously, seriously hope not. Because if there’s anything that the Mission needs more of it’s certainly pretentious, over-priced, and aimed at yuppies and hipsters. In 50 years is the Mission going to end up like North Beach?

Have to say, Firecracker and Yum Yum were my Chinese food staples. Yum Yum delivered for free, gave you free chow mein and had the tastiest sizzling tofu, shrimp, etc. Guess the rent on Valencia is getting too difficult to handle.

On the bright side, maybe we’ll get another world class restaurant that will increase the Mission’s cachet as a haven for gastro-tourism and techie happy hours. I’ll start saving my fun money.

Some of the Yummers have gone over the Big Lantern. The food is better now at Big Lantern. Like Voltron, they’ve combined to form a beast that is mightier than either was alone.

The answer to codesmith’s question is Big Lantern. It is by far my favorite and as it turns out they owned Yum Yum Hut too, though I disliked Yum Yum as much as I love Big Lantern.

Big Lantern comes through big time on the fake meat Chinese delights and the lunch specials are pretty sweet. Also Taro puffs from the dim sum menu are real good.

Now I want Chinese and there is nothing of that ilk in my neighborhood. Argh
