New Mission Theater Gets New Lease on Life

Jesse Keyes of turkeydinner just wrote in and made our day a little brighter:

Just got home and got a notice in the mail about a place wanting to sell alcoholic bevies at 2550 Mission St. Name of Co.: The New Mission Dining and Entertainment Inc.

Indeed, map the address, and check out the Street View: New Mission Theater, about to be reborn. Jesse asks, “Will it be tapas and flicks to give Foreign Cinema a run for its money? Or just porno and burgers…”

We said, how about tapas and porno!? Thanks, Jesse!

I was just talking about this place yesterday and how sad it is that it’s so run down. It would be amazing to see it all fixed up again.

That’s great news! I think the mission needs a movie theater that serves drinks and food, would be awesome if that’s what this turned into.

I agree with Christina… since I first saw the place I hoped someone would open a cheap 2nd-run theater there that serves drinks and food. Those theaters are very popular in Portland and, once security issues are figured out, could do well in the Mission as well.

Very good news indeed. I have had a few clients tour through buildings on Mission St. looking for retail opportunities but the lack of success in rehabbing the old theaters has been a negative. If a use can be found for them that is allowed (formula retail concerns) maybe some of the crime occurring at 16th and Mission can be either overlooked or decreased.
