Think this it it (SFGate):

The attempted auto theft occurred on Sunday in the 200 block of Lexington Street around 9:15 p.m., police said. The 31-year-old victim had just left his home when a dark green Jeep Cherokee pulled up. Five suspects emerged from the Jeep and one pointed a gun at the victim and ordered him to lie on the pavement and to turn over his car keys, said police.

The victim, however, replied that he did not own a car. A suspect kicked him in the ribs, and the five retreated to their Jeep and drove away, police said.

About half an hour later, the same suspects pulled up in the Jeep and confronted two 20-year-old men from Fairfield who were walking on 26th Street by Valencia Street, police said. Again, the suspects ordered their victims at gunpoint to lie on the sidewalk. They robbed both men then fled in the Jeep.

While those two victims were making a report to officers, the officers heard a police broadcast that the Jeep had been stopped by police at Cesar Chavez Boulevard and Valencia Street.

After I posted this, I saw something on sfist about a car chase that was in progress about an hour earlier at the other end of Valencia, also involving a grey vehicle. Must be the same car. I've lived in the hood for a while and never seen anything like this, but then again it can't always be happening right outside my window.

Similar thing happened last month near Valencia and Mission -- seven cop cars came out of *nowhere* and surrounded 5 guys on foot. The cops were clearly waiting for them. They had them sitting on the sidewalk along a wall for a long time, with more cop cars stoppping in front of them over an hour. Makes more sense now.
