Thought the same thing when I read that story. Isn't the Mission mostly Latino so wouldn't most of the traffic stops be Latinos?

I know when Capt. Chignell was at Ingleside, cops from Ingleside station would pull people over for "minor" infractions such as failing to yield to peds., rolling through stop signs, illegal left turns, etc. Turns out they were able to nab many felons who had outstanding warrants, or at least, hard drugs(meth. heroin) in the car. I guess if you are the type to commit hard and violent felonies, you're not that concerned with basic traffic safety.

profiling...? could be true. horrible if it is....

i got pulled over and had my car impounded on a technicality the other day right here in the hood (the cop was almost apologetic, though i am EXTREMELY polite with cops...and it cost almost 1K to get it ironed out). but hey, rules is rules...

maybe cops are just cracking down. truth is, pulling cars over for any and every reason is a basic cop tactic for catching bad guys, who dont tend to send in their reg on time, or keep their tail lights in order.

also wonder about "latinos being pulled over in numbers in the mission". is it true? the hood is over 60% latino i think. doesnt that mean over 60% of the people pulled over will be latino?

again, i'm not saying that SFPD profiling is impossible...and i think profiling is despicable...

but really...is this how we should be spending time & money? is this really the first thing on which campos should be focusing? given all the crime & the 2008 "year of shootings in the mission" we had...?
