I just found out about the issue this weekend when I saw an anti-American Apparel notice tacked inside the door of Bi-Rite Creamery. I understand the desire to keep the mom-n-pop vibe of the mission but is it a bit knee jerk to just dump AA in with Starbucks, mickeydees, etc? Not sure, I'm on the fence on this one.

I personally would love to see an American Apparel in the hood. They've got a great business model that employees Americans, treats their employees well (except for those female underwear models) and makes great product.

At the same time I would hate to see a Gap or more McDonalds/Burger Kings. Is it legal for each chain store that wants to open in the hood be reviewed on a case by case basis? If so, then I would definitely be up for AA opening. If it's not possible to approve case by case, then I'd have to say no.

I also have to agree with the Mission Merchants perspective, with all the vacant store fronts, it'd be nice to see AA move in.
