I live close to this area too and take my son to the skatepark. As I stated in that other blog, there are teens, that are high most of the time, jaywalking whilst riding their skateboards. Combined with fast moving track, this just makes for an accident waiting to happen. I also see some immigrant latino families doing the same thing with kids, strollers and all. It's poor urban planning for sure but the skate park didn't always live there. It's just my opinion, but I think 98% of people are going to go around the fence and it will prevent some kids from getting killed. That's an inconvenience that I'd rather live with.

As someone who lives on that block, that fence does nothing but cause the residents who live in the area to walk far out of their way after parking their cars on the skate park side of the street and funnel the people crossing into the skate park into an area where it is difficult to see on-coming traffic.

The concrete island wasn't extended all the way to 25th street so as to allow emergencies vehicles to turn around, but the pedestrians were crossing the street at that point anyway.

Without a crosswalk at a place where people will actually use it, I predict this new fence will only add to the problems, not reduce them.
