BREAKING NEWS: Pi Bar Looks Like a Fucking Restaurant BREAKING NEWS: Kevin Montgomery is Fucking Fired

believe it or not, pi bar is a restaurant

Eater SF has the hard-hitting scoop.

Also, it appears Pi Bar is destined to never open.  ’Shame.

UPDATE: Kevin lost his shit because Burrito Justice, Eater, SFist, Vegansaurus, us and maybe some others have done multiple posts on a restaurant that hasn’t opened yet, and for some reason he took it out on Eater, a blog devoted in part to obsessing about restaurants that haven’t opened yet — and a blog that Kevin and I both read every day because it rules.

To those that despise Kevin, I apologize for unleashing him on the world.

To those that love Kevin, he’s not actually fired, don’t worry.

To Kevin, go fuck yourself.

We’ve been doing a pretty good job keeping the hipsters at bay on this end, but it looks like resistance is futile.

  2. I love it! Really, the hood can only have so many Bendernovas, 500 Booths, and Zeitnesias. Well done, Pi.

I can’t wait to try the cheese plate.

    • Agreed. The problem isn’t how nice it is but how ridiculously over-hyped this place is. Considering no one has tried any of their food, it seems absurd people act like the restaurant is the second-coming of Christ. For all we know, the pizza could be awful, so why the hell is everyone every SF-blog talking about it?

I’m already sick of Pi Bar and it hasn’t even opened its doors yet.

In other news, I’ve been digging the pesto pizza at Escape From New York.

      • The pizza, I just know it, will be great. Only because: pizza, contrary to many a Yelp review, is hard to fuck up. I think. Unless you drench it in bizarre and vile Indian spices, you really can’t go wrong with it. Well, unless it’s overpriced. Because that’s just an odd thing to do to crust, sauce and chese.

Although for a truly glorious vive, the bar should’ve been a horseshoe-shaped one. Those are all too rare these days.

Why are you guys talking about it?

      • Eve says:

By “every SF-blog” do you mean you guys and the sites *about restaurants*? You guys have done way more posts about this place than, say, Eater — the editor of which has always been quite a supporter of Mission Mission. To bad y’all don’t reciprocate.

      • johnny0 says:

It’s all my fault. I’m just excited about the slices, something not well done outside the east coast.

While pizza is indeed hard to fuck up, too many places make poor choices with the dough style.

As for the space, I love that ceiling, and those bar stools look comfy.

  3. Shameless says:

    1. There is already plenty of good pizza in the Mission (Delfina, Flour and Water, Paulines) so who cares.
    2. You can get a good slice in the Mission (Arinells) but that is about it, so yes this is about the slices.
    3. This places doesn’t look like a “grab a slice” place. I’ll believe it when I see it.
    4. It’s not across the street from any bars so it had better be really good otherwise, no one is going there just to grab a quick slice. This assumes they are smart enough to stay open late.

    Yawn….

    • SFDoggy says:

Serrano’s does excellent slices; much better that Arinells

    • Juan says:

This place is like 4 doors down from the Dovre Club AND across the street from Anthony’s (cookies and pizza: terrific). It’s also “across the street” from Clooney’s, that is if you have the balls to actually go into that place.

  4. I hope they serve Lillet martinis. Always a crowd pleaser! A+++

  5. TJ says:

This place is actually around a mile from Pauline’s/LS/Arinell’s. The Mission is a big place and a little healthy competition for area pizza $’s can only improve the overall quality.

My big hope is that they serve top-notch beer by the pitcher. If that’s the case they’ll get my regular patronage in spite of the fact that I’m on the Northern edge of the hood.

  6. Eric says:

    Poor Kevin.

But in his defense, Eater is associated with Curbed, which means it sucks.

  7. olu says:

the other day, on my way to the Dovre (after stopping at Anthony’s for cookies) I checked to see if this place was open. it wasn’t but there was a long, well-written mission statement which used all the right words when talking about pizza.

I hope so – somedays I don’t feel like risking botulism so I need another slice option besides Arinell’s.

  8. grafiksgirl says:

    Oh Kevin…

Thank you Allan, for unleashing him on the world.

  9. Jen says:

This is the first thing that actually made me laugh out loud all goddamned day.

  10. alicia says:

My hopes for this place are that it will be fabulously successful, so much so that the wait for one of the legendary slices at Serrano’s gets down to 10 minutes or less.
