Snort Cocaine, If Yer Lucky

photo 4

I noticed lots of blow references in the Uptown bathroom last night.  Delirium, sure.  But the Uptown?  Is there some sort of invisible cocaine/yuppie problem there that I’m not hip to?

Flying Art

Personal friend and awesome artist Jonn Herschend will be flying art over The Mission today.

Here’s how he puts it:

If you are in San Francisco’s Mission district… or in close proximity, look up in the sky from 4:30-5:30PM on Sat the 17th. I’ll have a public piece flying over the city as part of Southern Exposure’s Bellwether exhibition. It’s an open ended narrative being pulled by a small airplane for everyone to experience at the same time.

And if you are on the ground, a good place to view it will be at Southern Exposure’s (see www.soex.org) Inaugural Exhibition from 4:00-10:00PM. The exhibition, Bellwether, features the work of Ant Farm, Renée Gertler, Liz Glynn, Jonn Herschend, Whitney Lynn, Jay Nelson, Nonchalance, Lordy Rodriguez, Christine Wong Yap and SoEx’s Youth Advisory Board.

You may know Jonn from such things as THE THING.

Bakesale for Kittens Tomorrow

vegan-cupcakes

These are going to be on sale tomorrow. I struggle to think of anything I would rather eat.

Peep this: there are going to be 60 bakers selling sweet, sweet baked wares to make you fat from 11am-4pm tomorrow (Saturday) in front of Ike’s Place to benefit the Give Me Shelter Cat Rescue.  Best of all, there are going to be real-life kittens OTS to play with and maybe take home.  Kittens, people.

On a side note, the San Francisco Committee for Human Rights in the Philippines is also going to be there collecting money and relief goods to help the victims of Typhoon Ondoy.

Full Disclosure: I’ve been to one of these bakesales before and they’re delicious.  I’ll be eating the shit out of some pie tomorrow.

They made some really cutesy post that I somewhat disapprove of on the ground it made vegans look like virginal middle schoolers, so here is the doctored poster I made them:

El Tonayense Parking Trouble

El Tonayense Trouble
Every day this taco truck parks here. That’s just what happens. This day was different. There was another car there. This car had less tires than required. (corny sighing sound) Life in the city.

Shotwell at 16th. The shot is crappy because I was running for the 22.

Questionably Racist Masks on 24th St.

Racist Mask 2

According to reader Eric, it looks like the store famous for their rack of luchador masks might be crossing a boundary:

Have you guys noticed these racist masks that they’re selling at that place on 24th between Capp and South Van Ness?

What the fuck?!?

Spotted in the Doc’s Clock men’s room.  I think I’m more impressed someone was willing to put their hands near that toilet.

The Dark N' Stormy Is The Best Goddamn Drink Ever

IMG_0872

Whenever I want to kick it like a Kennedy, I always order a dark n’ stormy.  The problem is this: much like how no one outside of the Bay Area has ever drank fernet, it is a rare day in hell you meet a bartender in SF that actually knows how to make one.  I finally ordered one of these from Latin American Club the other night and it was fucking delicious!  Like all L.A.C. drinks, it was super strong, but they have Black Seal and cold, bottled ginger beer.  Topped off with a big chunk of lime, and I was stumbling out of there after a couple drinks.

Help Us Save, Safewaygirl!

safeway

I was alerted to this Safewaygirl’s Safeway deals blog today, which consists pretty much entirely of what’s on sale at Safeway, with enthusiastic commenteary interspersed.   I was initially ready to write it off as a snooze, until I noticed the 40¢ mac & cheese.  Stoked!

Other good deals, too, and nicely categorized. I tend to forget there’s a Safeway in the Mission, but perhaps I’ll stroll in this evening after work and – - OH NO I’VE BEEN VIRALLY MARKETED TO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cycle Swap at Sports Basement This Weekend

Screen shot 2009-10-15 at 9.22.17 AM

I know the flyer is a little wordy but the skinny is this: this Sunday afternoon, you can go hang out with bike people and trade your stuff for better stuff/paper in the Sports Basement basement.  Even if you don’t have anything to buy or sell, they’ll be doing bike maintenance classes and everyone should know how to fix a flat, so be sure to make your way out there.
