They have taken down the tacky sign and removed the brown paper. The interior looks reasonably nice; it won’t win any design awards but it looks comfortable and inviting. No menu posted yet.

FYI, I happen to know some of the folks involved in the restaurant. Their previous restaurant was successful and served GREAT food. I expect this will be no different.

The signage is lame, but ultimately this place will live or die on its food. Kiji, the japanese restaurant next door is quite successful (based on how crowded the sushi bar is even mid-week), so the location is not deadly. If they have good food at lower prices that reflect a less than prime rents, it could be a good neighborhood place. The prior couple of places in this location were doomed by their truly lousy food.

actually this sign has very little to do with the quality of food i’d expect and everything to do with the price i expect to pay when walking in. if it’s a runaway success then maybe they’ll pay somebody with the design skills to re-brand themselves. if they don’t have an eye for it themselves, why spend all the cash up front? seems like yelp is the way we determine sink or swim nowadays. for sure this was a dick posting. there are plenty of places serving great food with shit signage all around the mission. merry fucking christmas motherfuckers!

Do you know what kind of food is going to be served there? If not your discrediting of it looks pretty silly. And that sign? It’s temporary; it’s to let people know it will be opening soon. Do you really think you would sink much money into a temporary sign? And this is not a “Valencia eatery” it’s on Guerrero and I’m willing to bet very few of you even know what was there before. So your saying no one is going to eat and that the place sucks before it’s even opened is pretty shitty.

Wow, some people are really sensitive today.

I thought your commentary was spot-on and funny. That sign is pretty awful. And if the owners can’t take the time to put some effort and a little bit more cash into making a decent sign that doesn’t look like the front page for a 6th grade book report, that probably doesn’t bode well for the food.

First you call the owners of the vegan mexican spot that’s opening “crazy” in a post before the place is even open, and now you post about how much you hate a restaurant’s signage before the place is open.

Dunno. Here’s the thing: people like a lot of things and don’t like a lot of things. No one said this blog has to gush about everything under the mission sun. If something sucks then, well, it sucks. Why the hell would you eat at a restaurant that put 10% effort into their signage? What does that say about the food?
