Two beers, I live here, know literally almost everyone in the neighborhood who currently and very actively works in the artists spaces throughout the Mission, and your claim is patently false.

Mistaken – Those fabulous empty warehouse buildings are actually fabulous, empty “live/work” condolofts, and not suitable for actual “work.” That being said, activspace is dreaming with it’s exorbitant 2007 sq ft prices. It’s fabulous and half-empty, too!

Most of the people doing “the same thing people in the neighborhood have been doing for decades,” were chased out of SF by the yuppie-RBA-dotcom-induced cost-of-living, and they are now “doing the same thing” in Oakland or Portland.

It’s okay, though, because this food bubble economy will never pop…until it does.

I just love the fact that in a neighborhood full of fabulous, empty warehouse buildings, they had to build one from scratch to do the same thing people in the neighborhood have been doing for decades.
