I actually lived here at El Capistrano Apts for two years, even during that time of the break-in. While it was a grossly unfortunate incident, the landlords immediately identified the cause of the break-in and took steps to secure where the keys were. They were some of the most responsive landlords I’d ever have (especially to maintenance issues) and really took good care of the building. It’s a stunning building, very well kept and has been in the same family since it was built late 20s/early 30s. The neighbors aren’t smelly, and the mix of old and new was always fun. Plus the view was fantastic. I always loved having guests over to show off my place. (Though, I don’t miss having to share a 1-bedroom with a roommate, as the rents now aren’t $450 anymore). But I guess that’s why I left SF.

I heard this too, spare key for all apartments kept in the one place, a thief took them and raided the apartments with no one home. This was in the middle of 2009.

A couple of friends lived there last year. Views from their apartment were great, but they moved out after getting burgled because security sucked.
