I don’t ride a fixed gear myself but obviously I see them all the time and while obnoxious I still see them stop when they need to.

I have seen lots of inexperienced bikers crash and they have 2 brakes. I’d trust an experienced fixed gear rider with no brakes over someone who hasn’t ridden in years and starts cruising the streets.
