No -- it's not that I don't like it.

I do like the basic idea; it's fine. I take public transportation to work every day, and I would prefer that people would think of ANY other way to get to where they are going before they accept a private automobile as the best answer to their problem.

But, as I see it, there is one thing worse than demanding the right to join the common herd of automobile commuters just because it is already there... and that is the need to form a new herd of commuters, as if that is the only way to get anywhere -- in a pack -- or to make your point.

Standing around a corner, waiting to get enough people to join you in your activity so you can look like a movement, is not sharing a pleasure. It is timid bullshit.

I look stupid all the time (like when I type too fast at work and add extra words to my snappy rebuttal), and I gotta say, it's not that bad.

Seriously, I understand that you don't like it, but I don't think you're giving any other reason that they shouldn't do it. Bike to Work Day gets a lot of people biking and discussing alternatives to driving, which seems positive to me.

Personally, I like walking or taking public transportation, but I also like to see people get excited and interested in celebrating something fun. I think cities should do more of that.

"People with who like to have fun – please do not take enjoyment in your common interests.

"How’s that?"

Interpretation for English speakers:

Dear people who like to share in the public enjoyment of outdoor activities:

Please do not participate in those activities in a way that makes you look stupid and discredits the public reputation of the activity which you wish to celebrate.

This advice is for your own good, and hurts me more than it hurts you.

How's that, foo?
