No More Booze at Bay to Breakers (NSFW)

Eye on Blogs explains:

Bay to Breakers spokesman Sam Singer moments ago fired off a sobering press release: Next year’s race, the 100th, will take place on May 15th — and no alcohol of any kind will be tolerated.

Read on.

Is this even possible? Enforceable? Won’t the people revolt? Look what fun they’re having!

Best comment so far from the story in SFGate: “With alcohol out, it’s time for psychedelics to make a comeback!”

Sure the city is going to get knocked on, but i think a lot of responsibility falls on those that went on a bender and ruined it for the rest of us.

Its kinda like hosting a block party: you don’t mind having strangers walking through your house drinking and having fun, but then you wake up the next morning and your “guests” have pissed all over your upstairs hallway. Of course, when you cancel the party, people think you’re being a jerk because you only have 2 bathrooms at your house.

speaking of gate comments, i like the one that said something like
“Binge drinkers mistake being drunk for being interesting”

the people in the photo sure think they are interesting.

They can try. They always do. It’s always scare tactics. I’d be surprised if it doesn’t fall through. Comes down to the fact that the SFPD doesn’t care enough to cite thousands of people. If you were a cop would you want hours of extra paperwork from a single day?

  4. If they get rid of the alcohol, we’ll only get to see ugly old people boobs instead of good ones like the pair above. That in itself is a crime

I wasn’t going to post today, but I had to scroll this NWS image off the front page cause I sit by my boss.

Yeah, okay, don’t they claim that every year? I spent about seven seconds googling and found a link (from Brock, duh) from 2009 detailing their new “zero tolerance policy on alcohol” and “no wheeled objects and floats”. Sure, whatever.

I’m sure this articles image is just going to inspire folks to drink more… If alcohol brings that to beta breakers, I’ll be there every year

  8. Hum, well, yeah. Bay-To-Breakers was pretty much my introduction to life IN SF, and also to LOVE in SF — many, many years ago — but I wouldn’t miss it for a second if the tradition just dried up and blew away at this point/no point.

    YMMV.

Of course, they’ll do it at least once more for the numbers.

Good riddance to this 7 mile long frat party.

    • Haz been says:

      +1

The frat party as No cal aptly termed it only started happening around 1995. Prior to that (at least to my adolescent recollection) it was a still a big party, but alcohol was only a part of it…and not the entire point.

A toxin that numbs the brain.

So many unthinking bleating sheep-citizens following their indoctrination that fun can not be had unless profitable-to-corporations alcohol is imbibed.

    So unZen-like.

Minimalistic minds guzzling down the mind-altering toxin.

honestly can’t tell if you’re being ironic here. if so, kudos. you’ve totally perfected the stereotypical anti-social naysayer character

if not, well… hope your life improves, buddy. good luck
