Steve Spielberg is very popular over there. I have twiddled it around in my head since 1st going in the 70′s (that would be before Paris had a Pompidou and its ghastly neighbor Les Halles — I have pictures and wow, what a fabulous neighborhood they bulldozed) and I still can’t quite put my finger on it.

There is a fatalism there that expresses itself best as “there is nothing new under the sun.”

But there is also a lot of energy and creativity.

And most of it desperately wishes it could move here, live in the Mission and work for google.
