freak accident like that happens, it was meant to be.

Also, hopefully the driver gets a hefty punishment and it becomes an example to all other car owners in SF to wise up and watch out for cyclists.

I often find myself taking too much for granted in the “trust of motorists” department. Stories like this remind me how important it is NOT to do that. Sorry to see someone cut down just as the prime of their life was kicking in.

p.s. that intersection scares me even in a car.

supposedly the dude and his gf were driving home from a dinner where lots of alcohol was consumed, according to the Examiner the prosecutors pulled their tab and it included a bottle of wine, some shots and after-dinner drinks.

the Examiner article says that there were witnesses that saw him hit the biker, stop, move the bike out of the way and switch seats with his gf before they drove away.

if this is how it went down, it’s a pretty chilling tale. i don’t know how his ‘not guilty’ plea is going to work out. i wonder why the girlfriend isn’t being charged as well?
