You’re correct. Aside from perhaps a slightly upgraded swaybar and rear suspension, all dunebugs are plain old vw pan(sans the metal frame). I believe this includes the original meyers manx models.

Metallic was the crazy for some reason. When I first found mine, it was a sparkling puke green:

Automotive experts, correct me if I mis-remember, but… Aren’t these 60s-vintage buggies just VW Beetles with better suspension and fatter tires (plus a groovy fiberglass shell — I remember metal-flake gold being popular)? So why wouldn’t you need one?! I need one, and I don’t even drive anymore.

Riding in the back of this is like being JFK in Dallas, without being shot in the head. People wave, smile, and cheer. I felt like a millionaire, if people liked millionaires.

Also, it smells really bad and is really loud, so everyone sees you and pays attention, without having to yell ‘hey! look at me! I’m in a dune-buggy!’
