It seems like there's a lot of really good small spaces for live music in the Mission, but not a lot of larger spaces. Sure, you can walk to DNA, Slim's, Cafe du Nord, maybe even Bottom of the Hill. But none of those places are in the Mission. I wish we had something a little bigger than Elbo Room or El Rio in the Mission.

I'll miss Coda- they had great happy hour specials (1/2 price drinks and apps) and I always thought the staff was great. I'm not a music connoisseur by any means, but I really did enjoy the couple shows I saw on Wednesday nights when they did early shows.

Thanks for the note- I'll be sure to hit them up for one last round before they close.

As a musician and fan of live live music, I'm always disheartened when local venues close. However, I won't be lamenting the loss of Coda like I did when clubs like Annie's or 12 Galaxies shut their doors. The last time I went to Coda was to see some top notch Turkish music. After spending $22 on 2 cocktails, the promoter (aka the guy who spent the entire set jumping on and off stage to tell the band how much time they had left) stopped me on the way to the bathroom and asked me to remove my hat because "you are the only person wearing one and it looks odd". Besides the fact that most of the band and bar staff were wearing hats, I had a hard time figuring out what was so informal about wearing a brand-new herringbone duckbill in the Mission on a Sat night. I refused, finished my drink and left as the laptop "DJ" started pumping his fist to Black Eyed Peas. I found out later that a good portion of the band's guest list were refused entry for wearing t-shirts and other douchey type door rules (esp strange considering that most of the staff and security were dressed in hoodies, tshirts, sneakers, hats, etc.). This be have been a one-off night with an uppity promoter, but it did not fit with my idea of a quality live-music experience, esp on a Sat night in the Mission.

My experiences at Yoshi's have always been far more positive and welcoming. I'm still reeling from the Secret Chiefs 3/John Zorn tribute I saw there a few years back.
