Mission Pizza Parlor Actually Closes

image

This certainly goes against the Zeitgeist. Instead of following the trend of a new pizza place opening every other month, Papa Potrero has closed its doors for good.

Surprising, sure, but at the same time I suppose that unlike this place, no one has ever been gunned down at Delfina.  But they sure came close!

This place has been closed at least for two months. haha people from the projects and mental patient escapees would coalesce there. and yes the pizza was also horrible. codeine for a swig of whiskey? why not

Well, I’m sure the gang related double homicide didn’t help attract any new customers…

Yeah whatever happened to that kid that killed Frank and Cisco? So sad.

Don’t forget all the drugs that changed hands in there. It made for some entertaining peoplewatchng from the bar, but probably wasn’t great for business.

That’s a shame. I have fond memories of Papa Potrero’s, as they were pretty much the only place that would actually deliver to my neighborhood when I lived in Bayview.

Mission Local did a pretty extensive history on Frank Peña, one of the guys killed there.

It’s a history of the Mission as well — how the gang culture developed first around neighborhoods rather than red/blue, and how drugs took over much of 24th and Mission in the 80s.

After reading it, I’d much prefer to visit the Mission of the 1880s.
