his first album release was 2002's trombone shorty's swingin' gate on louisiana red hot records, followed by four more successful new orleans-flavored albums. his latest, backatown, on verve forecast records, is arguably his best. this treme neighborhood denizen delivers energetic track after energetic track, joining old school jazz rhythms with new school hip hop and funk. "something beautiful," "backatown," "in the 6th,""wher y'at" and "928 horn jam" are particularly fueled with hot jazz, blistering lyrics and funky trombone fervor. all but one of the fourteen tracks is original; "on your way down" is legendary allen toussaint's, who sits in on piano for this version. trombone shorty breaths new life into new orleans jazz, creating a jewel of an album rife with soulful rhythms and kinetic energy. it was released on april 20, 2010, and is available in cd form and digital download. this one is simmering on the stove top, don't sleep on it. changing public tastes caused a decline in these large bands, and the great depression of the 1930s finally caused most of the remaining ones to fold. smaller dance bands, whose music was influenced by jazz, became more popular. a disassembled trombone. from left to right: mouthpiece, outer slide, bell section, inner slide. 1855-new york, new york: theodore benecke's illustration, sleighing in new york, includes a band performing from the balcony of barnum's museum. the trombonist in the band plays a rear-facing trombone (see below detail; public domain) (eno collection of city views, new york public library; bowles, timpani 295). classical period

I've thought for some time that the old ferry there would be a perfect spot for a coffee shop. So much space, and it HAS the coffee shop/lunch counter area from when it was a ferry, etc. Just put in some new equipment, plumb it up, stick in some wi-fi and you have a work-from-home spot with the best view in the city.
