Anyone ever shot on old film/cameras? They don’t make things look like this exactly. I’ve also never seen old photos “age” to look like this. Also, the Instamatic camera never had a lens that could produce that type of depth of field. Some of the earlier films tended to have bolder colors or unique hues, true, but there is something unique about these iphone apps that no camera I’ve ever heard of can replicate. The closest I’ve come is to cross-process slide film. But please prove me wrong so I can hunt one down and start shooting with it.

I kind of agree with you. And I use it in a way that’s really lazy, just tossing an almost random effect on it. I just like enhancing the pics somehow and I’m on the fence about whether it’s worth it or not.

This picture is great on its own; the angle and the phones are great. Great subject, great composition, bueno! Adding filters in an attempt to try to age the photo, remove it from the present and imply it’s place in some forgotten annals–as if we have happened upon this precious moment–cheapens the shot. The process-filters, border, etc.-then become the focus of the shot.
