I accidentally left my wallet at the register once at Duc Loi and when I went back the next morning they had kept it for me… only gave it back after I showed them my ID in it. I was equally surprised and relieved.

On the other hand, twice within the last 6 years (most recently, last July), I have lost my glasses on the street (I have prescription sunglasses, too). On both occasions, I raced back to the scene of the disaster within minutes, only to find nothing. What’s up with the glasses, people? There’s no way in hell the prescription would match yours! SF law sez you can’t be parked in any one place for more than 72 hours, or else they will tow your ass. You’re lucky it didn’t happen to you, in my neighborhood (Bernal) people will call your shit in to DPT if you overstay the limit, and man does that tow truck show up ever quick.

There’s a car that parks in Nob Hill (I saw it many times when I lived there) with signs that say something like “please don’t smash our windows. the doors are unlocked, but there is nothing worth taking”. Maybe people did go through your car, but didn’t find anything they wanted.
