Here’s what last night’s Flaming Lips show at Bimbo’s looked like

They played Soft Bulletin in its entirety, fueled in part by at least one trip to Zeitgeist.

Rolling Stone was on the scene:

Before launching into it, [Flaming Lips frontman Wayne] Coyne invited Noise Pop’s producers onstage and presented them with a certificate that came directly from San Francisco Mayer Ed Lee, declaring February 21st- 26th Noise Pop Week. As if local music fans hadn’t known that already, for the past 20 years.

I wonder how much Benjy Eisen got paid to misspell “mayor”.

  2. Herr Doktor Professor Deth Vegetable says:

Yeah, the show was pretty epic. No complaints here.

  3. PN says:

I bet you didn’t pay for your tickets.

No, I don’t think they wouldn’t have sold out. I think more “normal” non media folk would have been there. I’m just full of unjustified internet haterade for this Noisepop bullshit. I think it’s a little overhyped by the media because of all of the free passes they give out. And, I don’t think they give local bands much of a chance to be a part of it. Thanks for playing along.

There are lots of local bands involved. Go see Shannon and the Clams or Bare Wires or Thao and Vanderslice or Two Gallants or Greg Ashley tonight.

I’m going to see Uzi Rash at The Knockout. I’ve seen Shannon and Bare Wires at much better venues.

What’s wrong with Cafe Du Nord?

          • PN says:

Du Nord is too big and it’s a Noisepop show. Noisepop shows don’t have any bands that need support. Shannon is great I’ve seen her a bunch and even deejayed one of her shows at the Stud, but she’s playing heavily promoted shows (like Noisepop and The Bruise Cruise) and I don’t feel the need to truck down there when it’s probably going to be “sold out” due to press passes. I’d rather see a show in my hood by a band that’s doing something a little different and doesn’t have the support of Noisepop.

Huh. Fair enough. I, on the other hand, am gonna go enjoy the fuck out of Built To Spill at the Fillmore tonight.

I’m glad that we live in a city cool enough to offer something for each of us.

The moment when they presented the certificate to the noisepoppers was wonderfully awkward.
