Tonight at Noise Pop 2012: The next ‘wave’ of surfy garage rock bands plus the girl that sang lead vocals on that one Weezer B-side

At Cafe du Nord, it’s a show starring the Soft Pack, that band that used to be called the Muslims. They’re kind of surfy garage rock. Local faves Shannon and the Clams support, along with FIDLAR and Surf Club, who are also surfy garage rock. Tickets and details here.

Upstairs at the Swedish American Hall, it’s Mac McCaughan from Superchunk doing a solo thing, with Rachel Haden, who sang the lead on Weezer’s “I Just Threw Out the Love of My Dreams,” and a couple other acts opening. Tickets and details here.

It’s also worth noting that Rachel Haden was one of the founding members of the Rentals. And she sings like an angel.

Jon Wurster is already in town to play with Bob Mould tomorrow night and ten bucks says he shows up to join Mac McCaughan for at least a few songs. Another aside, if you are a Mac/Superchunk fan you should pick up the book about the history of Merge Records, “Our Noise,” I just finished it, and it was excellent.
