I’m bummed. I’ve shopped at F&E, and everything is overpackaged, and many items are cheaper elsewhere. Plus, all checkout is automated, meaning fewer employees. It’s difficult to shop for 1 or 2 people — all the meats, produce, etc. are in packs of multiples. It’s better than an empty shell, but I would have preferred Grocery Outlet or Trader Joe’s.

Slightly interesting comparison of products (including sale items?) but totally bogus summary. Add up all the costs of actually compared to products and TJs is much cheaper than the summary would suggest.

You do have to be somewhat careful shopping at TJs though. Some of their stuff – especially the per item priced organic fruits/veggies – are very expensive. Even more than Rainbow.

I’m pretty sure you and Andy need to work on your reading comprehension. “combines the charm of an expensive Trader Joe’s with the mystique of a cheaper Whole Foods” does not mean that Trader Joe’s is expensive nor that Whole Foods is cheap.

It means that if there were such a thing as a more expensive version of Trader Joe’s AND a cheaper version of Whole Foods AND through some terrible alchemy you combined the two, the result would Fresh & Easy. I have no idea if that’s true because I’ve never shopped at one.
