Newly reinstalled Valencia Swing is gone in less than 24 hours

We announced its return yesterday morning, and it survived a riot so that people could enjoy it in the riot’s aftermath, but now it is gone.

As Emily who took this photo says, “Fuck everything about the last twenty-four hours.” [link]

The swings in Lower Haight have survived for months. I guess we know which neighborhood is more swing-friendly.

there are tons and tons of swings here in the castro. it’s interesting that they’re all inside in rooms that tend to be lined with leather. you might want want to wipe it down before sitting in one. no reason.

Really bummed that it’s so hard to put up a simple swing. I found this little guy in its first incarnation a few months ago — I was waiting for a friend and was delighted to see a swing. I sat and kicked for a good half an hour, just listening to some music, and it was such a nice way to kill time. Finally I noticed a girl standing nearby, hands patiently clasped. It took a moment for that old playground etiquette to kick in: she wanted a turn! And I gladly hopped off and let her do her thing. It shouldn’t be so hard to install a little civic joy on our streets.

Maybe it would survive longer if pictures of it weren’t plastered all over the internet with its location. Just a thought.

How many homeless are passed by on the way to the swing?
