This is one of the best bars in the Mission. It’s wonderfully not-ironic, which means it not filled top to bottom with hipsters. If you have a personality you can actually talk to interesting locals, like muni drivers and mexican laborers. The food is decent, the bartenders are great, and the regulars are hilarious–what’s not to like?

I like it for being a place that serves decently-priced food and has a full bar. There are other places fitting that description, but they usually tend to be either greasy (but awesome!) gut-bombers like Bender’s or higher end restaurants. The Napper Tandy hits that in-between sweet spot.

I’ve never gone there just for the bar side of things, although they seem to do pretty well for themselves on that front.

I feel like I’m missing something with this bar. Been there maybe 5 or 6 times and never really had a great time. I can’t speak to the food, as I’ve never had it, but the drinks seemed kind of expensive for what they were. Also, the pool tables were in terrible shape last time I was there.

Yet, somehow people seem to love it. What gives?
