I wanted to also add that Sutro Tower art is public domain and free for anyone to work with. We’re not going to try to prevent anyone else from making them. In fact there is one guy making a much larger version too which is pretty cool!

Regarding the Sutro model controversy…! I’m from Studio for Metropolitan Craft, and here is our side of the story! We assume the other guy saw our Sutro Tower at TechShop- because they put it on display right in front of the Lasercutters and we saw him making them at TechShop, because we work there too. Our Sutro Tower came out months ahead of his. We hadn’t done much online marketing yet, were looking at brick and mortar stores. Aidaan comes along and makes a cheaper smaller rougher version of the kit- using much the same instructions and description- and passes it off as his own and markets it online. We offer to speak with him about it in person and exchange emails. He doesn’t want to meet. So we say we will defend our copyright to the idea and we should have first opportunity to market it. Simple artistic defense. Totally legitimate. He struck us as being rather sneaky. And we apologize for any misunderstanding.

I never knew that thing was called Sutro tower. I’ve always referred to it as “King Trident’s Trident”.
