Pride 2010: I was part of the flash mob that surprised the spectators at Civic Center to Grease’s “We Go Together.” There were about 60 dancers and we even had the first gay and lesbian couples that got married in California during the Summer of Love. The audience really dug it and it is one of the most fun experiences in my life!

While I am not Gay, my daughter is and she just posted pictures of her and friends at Boston’s Pride day and I couldn’t be more proud of her. I would give her the bag, which she would Love! and it would have to be the MORE! not the subtle, because it is obvious go Loud and Proud or go home.

At a pride party in the Gangway I met my first boy. He was a burgundy-blazer, sun glasses at night type with dreads. I was infatuated, and he was smooth. One night, he takes me home and puts on some music to add flirt to the air. It was clear where this was going and we went for it. The music went from the Clash to Tori, to moaning and then groaning. But then, and I will never forget this, The Indiana Jones theme song starts playing. My legs are in the air and all I can focus on is some white boy in a tunnel running away from a big brown mound. Well, things didn’t really work out with him and I, and not because he failed to turn off his itunes shuffle when fucking but he just never really returned my phone calls. Ever since, I’ve seen him on Pride dancing away with cute boys. I wave, and mentally grumble, “Snakes. I hate snakes.”

Every year I photograph for Juanita MORE! at her annual Pride Party and get some really amazing shots. Let me tell you, people do some pretty ridiculous things on Pride — and I’m there with a camera to capture them.

However, I always find it funny (even after years of night life shooting) that without a doubt people have the same reaction to the camera throughout the day. It all starts out with people in their best garb, acting ridiculously classy, strutting their stuff, or some even too stuck up to get their photo taken. But after a few hours of cocktails, socializing with other queens and a Kiki or two suddenly I’m everyone’s best friend. I’ve never gotten more lipstick stains and photos of fake boobs that I do during pride. That day, I become everyone’s best friend.
