I have never try it but I suspect it's an acquired taste. You must know that pulque is made from fermented sap of of maguey (agave) plant and I quote Wikipedia. Tequila and mezcal are also made from agave plant. It's fermented as oppose to distilled and it isn't carbonated. It's also fermented with different ingredientst, from fruits to who knows what. Used to be the drink of gods. Call it what you want, it's for me to find out. I hear it has medicinal benefits, that's a good excuse to find out if an alcohol beverage is actually good for you (without abuse).

I thought about this for a while and did some wiki-ing. Cider is typically made from fruit and wine is typically like 7-14% alcohol, which I don't think pulque is. The agave they use to make pulque is more closely related to yucca than any typical fruit we would make cider out of. So I agree beer is not a perfect word, I don't know that it's a terrible word to use.

It isn't a fermented grain and therefore not beer. You could more acurately call it wine or cider.
