Lots of restaurants? More people walking around at night? My old neighbors sure think so. The tech boom benefits EVERYONE. Jobs are jobs. High-paying jobs and infusion of educated workers have extra amplifying effects, too. Read Enrico Moretti (a Mission resident)’s new book.

But if you really don’t like it here, there are plenty of shitty places in the country where the neighborhoods never change and grouchy underachieving barflys like you can drink in peace.

But the rest of us face skyrocketing costs of living because are livelihoods aren’t in tech, tech services, or corollary entertainment outlets. On top of the skyrocketing costs of living (rising much faster than the wages of anyone not in banking or tech), we get the privilege of paying more to live and work in a neighborhood whose charms are under assault by exactly those who are driving the costs through the roof.

A double-whammy.
