I disagree with the premise. I’ve left California and am considering moving back. I’m just not sure which is worse – people who don’t really believe they are special and shit on everyone else because of it, or people who love the smell of their own farts.

Hm, I’ve experienced it the other way around. After leaving SF after 3o plus yrs, and moving to a sparsely populated state, my vote actually counts, people know my name as I walk down the street. While in the Mission/Castro my aloof neighbors never knew my name until we had a %@#$ moving sale and they wanted to buy my furniture.
