Bad Blood with Joshua Cobos: Fancy

Every week, photographer Joshua Cobos shoots a roll of film just for us. He picks the best 13 photos and we post them here, and it’s called “Bad Blood with Joshua Cobos.” Here’s what Joshua has to say about the above shot:

I’ve been taking photographs of Fancy for the past 4, 4 1/2 years. I’ve seen many transformations, lots of different stage names & hair colors take place in these 4 short years. The lady has only become more self assured, dynamic & vivacious as time has gone on, this is the last photograph I took of her before she left to London.

Thanks, Joshua!

At some point you will learn how to expose film properly.

This would be a good set of images to have a photography 101 class critique.

See how people who know nothing about photography use the most dumbed down compositions…just put the subject in the center of every image.

JC: sign up for some free photography classes at the Harvey Milk on Scott Street, or else buy some of Bryan Peterson’s books; they’re bursting with easy to follow tutorials about exposure, natural light compensation, fill-flash, composition, etc.
I’m not going to be the photographer who critiques your stuff, but just because a bud posts them doesn’t mean you’re groovin’ a style.

    LOL at photography critics

Whoever smashed Nick Waterhouse’s Gibson should be put in public stocks at 16th & Mission for a week.

Well, these photos are nothing special and kinda suck, so it shows photography is more of a who ya know; not what you know. Something that has been “known” for a long time. ART SUCKSSSSSSS

  6. photographer says:

    = “photographer”

  7. sf photography is 99% terrible says:

THE REASON PHOTOGRAPHY SUCKS HERE IS BECAUSE A BUNCH OF FUCKING TASTELESS FUCKTARDS THAT READ BLOGS INSTEAD OF BOOKS AND HAVE DISPOSABLE INCOME FROM THE TEET OF SILICON VALLEY SPEND MONEY ON GARBAGE PHOTOGRAPHY AT GARBAGE PHOTOGRAPHY SHOWS. HALF THE FUCKING PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITS I HAVE SEEN IN THIS CITY CONSIST OF SOMETHING MIMICING A TEENAGE GIRL’S INSTAGRAM FEED DONE ON A 90S POINT AND SHOOT CAMERA. IT’S A FUCKING JOKE, MUCH LIKE THE OUTPUT OF MOST YOUNG ARTISTS FROM SAN FRANCISCO (OH WOW I MADE A COLLAGE THAT LOOKS LIKE I DID SHITTY PHOTOSHOP WORK BUT IN REAL LIFE WITH MAGAZINE CUT OUTS, GOLLY WOW, MOMMY AREN’T I SPECIAL???)

    • sure says:

actually you have a point in there somewhere… Most Bay Area art is pretty bad, too much of an insular bubble and too many people happy with what’s being produced rather than ‘hungry’ artists with more competition and more drive to push the limits rather than what fits in with the status quo. From what I’ve witnessed it’s like this with Theatre, Burlesque, Music, most forms of art really. People are too happy with what’s currently being produced and not taking enough risks… It’s just all too obvious. And all the people at those shows are just other artists in the same field being all self-congratulatory.
