Geriatrification of the Mission

Our pal Sweet T (who shot the photo and wrote the above headline) explains:

This photo was shot yesterday around 2pm. A bus pulled up and dropped off all these elderly folks at Tacolicious. There are a couple theories floating around that might explain this: 1. They got lost on their way to Tartine OR 2. They’re filming the third installment of the Cocoon trilogy right here in the Mission.

Don’t worry, I’m sure the owner will shoo them away out of spite!

  2. Sweet T says:

Full disclosure: The photo was taken by my fiance, and the cocoon joke belongs to guy named Steve. I will take credit for identifying the upcoming urban social problem that is “geriatrification.”

  3. soup says:

The mission is already gentrified (and has been for years).

  4. simon stark says:

this blog contributes to the gentrification of the mission

  5. moto-waki says:

no wonder i don’t go there.

  6. ALWAYS HIGH says:

OL FOLKS JUST NOSHIN’ ON QUESO, NO TEEFS NEEDED WHAS BIG DEAL ?

  7. Erik says:

I don’t get it. Old people aren’t supposed to go out for tacos?

    • TinyTim says:

No, Erik. Old people are only supposed to chomp on pre-masticated green beans and apple pie with Cool Whip.

    Worst. Place. Ever.

    • Bleeze says:

Curious what you think is so bad about it?

      • Herr Doktor Professor Deth Vegetable says:

Mediocre, overpriced food and the worst clientele demographic I’ve ever seen.

        • Herr Doktor of Chip's says:

Food is not bad Some selections are good.

It is not overpriced – unless you are looking for serious cheap eats.

Clientele, there are worse, but it is bad.

          • Bob Dole says:

It’s the Mission. You know, where the majority of the City’s Hispanic population lives? It would be like going to Chinatown looking for Panda Express.

          • Bob's Slow says:

Go inside and ask all the local’s working there if they care what you think about the business employing them.

  9. Paolo says:

Pretty sure there was a tour bus that dropped off a bunch of folks at Four Barrel this morning.

  10. notatransplantciscan says:

maybe if they’ve been dropped off at a REAL taco place the picture could be outrageous…

  11. TinyTim says:

Thanks for the idea (although we can dispense with the buses). We old geezers are going to keep descending on the hot spots and drive away the young ‘uns, eventually driving them to the Marina/Union St. ghetto and back to NYC. Then we can reclaim the old neighborhood! Bring back the womyn-owned businesses of mid-Valencia St; Daniel Creamery that dispensed fresh cream cheese, Modern Times bookstore; dusty old stores that sold used plumbing & electrical supplies.
Solid used furniture from Salvation Army and the other used furniture stores–not pretentious “emporiums” that consider a typewriter a mid-century must-have. Geriatricism rules! We can needlessly stand in a line as well as anybody else. We can chatter aimlessly about the latest foodie trends and stare at a screen full of inconsequential matter as well as anybody. Hell, we may even break into a Jane Fonda exercise flash-routine and drive you from these very streets. But we’ll only do this after we’ve had our single-cup drip coffee that we’ve been brewing all along for the LAST 30 YEARS!

naaah-we dont want gentrification here;or any improvements;we need more gang bangers;more winos;more transients;please bring in more coke dealers;we need more crack in the mission;it takes my neighbor a whole 15 minutes to get crack in the neighborhood these days;what kinda shit is that????
