Beating up the Google bus (piñata)

Not that many folks seemed to come out for yesterday’s gentrification demonstration, although that didn’t stop those who did from beating down the Google bus piñata as promised.

I think the police were the most disappointed, as they had all assembled nearby, zip-ties and paddy wagons waiting for protestor violence that never happened. Don’t feel sorry for them too much though; at least they got a chance to celebrate Cinco de Mayo at nearby Pancho Villa:

love it! this goes to show that the gentrification noise (albeit loud) is made by just a few.

gentrification demonstration by a bunch of WHITE people? At least from the pics….that is too funny. It is the white people that are contributing to the gentrification.

Even better the reflection of the white, blonde hair Marina-type in the front window of Pancho Villa….lol

It seems silly to cry over spilled milk which is what I’d be doing if I went. I was pushed out to Oakland a couple of years ago and I am sure I am not the only one. Hence the small crowd. San Francisco is a lost cause. It makes me sad to see what it’s turning into. I am a Bay Area native so I have lots of memories, but it’s already ruined in a way that doesn’t seem like its going to change. It’s hard to compete with three thousand dollar Google monthly rent vouchers and down low downwardly mobile “hipsters” especially when you make well below the city’s median income.

What’s the truth of “three thousand dollar Google monthly rent vouchers?”

      • Isaac says:

There’s no truth. I know a few Google employees, and not one of them get a $3,000 rent voucher. They do however get free meals, expensed home internet, free on-site laundry/dry cleaning, etc.

Hey…don’t judge a book by it’s cover. WHITE doesn’t always mean we’re ALL white. I am a 3rd generation SF Mission District native!! Ancestors came from Mexico to California and eventually my Great Grandfather 100% latino was born in SF in the late 1800′s. I may look white to you but I am not all white. Hey..I see Diamond Dave out there. Wish I’d have known…I would have been there to beat the heck out of that bus. Why don’t you save gas, save the environment and live near your Google office and walk. You may win this time…but believe me all ROMES must fall and wait until it happens to you. Go back to Minnesota or where ever you’re from inlanders! Or better yet..go take over the Marina…they’ll like you.
