Fair Oaks Street Fair is this Saturday!

Fair Oaks is one of the prettiest streets in the Mission, and it has hosted the Fair Oaks Street Fair every spring for the past 37 years — just look at those rad ’70s spring outfits from one of the first ones! As per usual, it’ll be five blocks (21st to 26th) of neighborhood garage sales and food stands from 9am to 5pm, all benefiting local nonprofits (Jamestown Community Center’s youth programs, and the Fair Oaks Community Coalition’s alley project).

1970′s Mission Resident: “Get these colonizing gentrifying hipsters out of my neighborhood”

I was having the same discussion with this dude the other day, and i do understand the gentrification, but c’mon tell me one place in the world this isn’t happening. Talk about world without borders!

    • wait says:

perhaps you’re forgetting that these anti-gentrification people have been here a VERY long time. most of them come from a long lineage of american indian hipsters that freely roamed in these parts. because of this, we must respect their wishes and keep things simple or as “as they were”.

soon we’ll have hipster casinos! yes!

Be clear, estupidos: its one thing and this one thing only: the unwinding of the 1950′s and 1960′s bad ideas of urban renewal. People left but they came back.

    • whack-a-mole says:

People don’t come back — but their children and grandchildren do; there are more opportunities for broke kids in the city. What would you expect?

Soooo anyway, the Fair Oaks Street Fair is awesome. Can’t wait.
