You’ve got a little over a week left to eat at Pal’s Take Away’s original location before they move to new digs!

The Pal’s website, which is updated every morning with daily specials (and the song of the day), explains:

STAY TUNED FOR THE DETAILS!!

Can’t wait!

But I’ll also miss getting sandwiches at Tony’s. Anyway, enjoy it while you still can!

Go to Primo’s art show

We’ve been big fans of Primo‘s poster art (for his own DJ nights like 2 Men Will Move You, Oldies Night, Soft Opening and lots more) for like ever, so we’re excited he’s got an official show coming up. It opens tomorrow at Four Barrel, in fact!

Now, links to lots of classic poster art by Primo:

Inside Urban Putt

On Tuesday evening Steve Fox opened up the doors to the space at 1096 South Van Ness, future home of his mini golf restaurant bar, Urban Putt, and let people wander inside and look around. The former mortuary was most recently renovated to be a bar and club, but retains a lot of the original flair and regality of a classy/cheesy 20th Century mortuary, including some creepy little brick chambers and a stairway to nowhere in the basement. I spoke with Steve and his designer Christopher Myers about their plans.

The plans for the holes are pretty ambitious and sound like they’re going to be a lot of fun to make. As someone who has also built an indoor park with building exteriors in this neighborhood, it’s right up my alley. Many of the holes are going to be locally themed, recreating monuments and places from San Francisco that go beyond the typical postcard locals, such as the spot where the 1906 Earthquake survivors meet every year. There will also be a private room to rent out, bars around the space and dining upstairs. We wrote about Urban Putt previously here.

Anyway, back to the holes, most of them will be on the main floor, but some will also lead the golfers into side rooms where they will step into a submarine environment. The fabrication will happen on site and Steve is looking to include local artists/designers to help create one or two of the holes. You can contact him if you’re interested.

When Kevin Bacon was a San Francisco bike messenger

Our good pal Kate reminded about this gem from 1986 that stars Kevin Bacon as a hotshot stockbroker who loses it all and becomes a bicycle messenger on the mean streets of San Francisco.  Check out the trailer to also catch a glimpse of him racing a young Lawrence Fishburne down some speedy SF hills!

Also, more people need to be doing this in front of bars:

Singin’ and Pingin’ returns to Z Space this Friday!

I’d probably go to a watching-paint-dry party as long as it was held at Z Space, but dude, this party sounds even better:

You’ve demanded it for nearly a year now! This month, SINGIN’ & PINGIN’ makes a triumphant return to its original venue, Z Space, the grand performing arts theater in the heart of the northeastern Mission!

DJ PURPLE (http://djpurple.com/) has gained notoriety and momentum since last we appeared here, so the DANCE KARAOKE show will be even tighter and more awesome than ever. And there will be FOUR TABLES for maximum BERLIN-STYLE PING PONG ACTION!

Full bar and lots of dance floor! And FREE BEER and FREE HARD CIDER for the first hour! Plus, for some reason, “The Endless Slope” indoor snowboarding machine, courtesy of Adventurous Sports (http://adventurous.com/).

Can’t wait! RSVP and invite your friends!

Awesome Kickstarter prizes if you help kickstart the forthcoming Linea Caffe by Andrew Barnett and Anthony Myint

The team is looking to fund the addition of sidewalk seating and San Carlos Street access to their little space, so they’ve started a Kickstarter campaign. For different levels of donation, you can earn coffee and waffles, a Linea demitasse by Heath, a Linea tumbler by Heath, a cool shirt, and lots more.

Here’s a little more on the project:

We will use the funds to create an open indoor/outdoor stand up bar and provide outdoor seating on San Carlos street. This will create a great space for people in SF to come and enjoy coffee, waffles and salads. The outdoor space will be a wonderful way to better connect with our neighborhood and make it a more enjoyable place to live.

The video is good too. Click through and watch!

Check out this absolutely sick poster for tonight’s show at the Eagle starring Torche and Needles

Here’s some more info, courtesy of The Eagle on Facebook:

Enter Torche, the four-pronged Floridian Riff Colossus that has steamrolled its way across the international underground. Led by vocalist/guitarist Steve Brooks (formerly of doom dropouts Floor) and featuring the myriad talents of drummer Rick Smith, bassist Jonathan Nuñez and guitarist Juan Montoya, Torche unfurled their self-titled debut in 2005 via Richmond, Virginia’s Robotic Empire. The glorious half-hour of blissed-out power-grooves, triumphant vocal harmonies and cosmic resonance within was variously hailed as “stoner pop,” “thunder rock,” and “doom pop,” but a consensus was quickly reached within the Fourth Estate: Both the underground and mainstream press had their hands halfway down their pants just thinking about listening to Torche. The band was immediately lauded as giants among men, leaders among sheep, and powerbrokers of a deadly new sonic idiom founded upon Brooks’ signature “bomb-string” detonation-detune.
