Help bring a Portuguese-inspired cafe to the Mission

As much as I admire Portuguese soccer teams, I can’t recall if I’ve ever actually sampled any of the cuisine from the colorful coastal nation. Apparently, I’m not alone in this, which is something that Andrea de Francisco wants to change by bringing Cafe St. Jorge to the Mission:

Named after my favorite Açorean Island and birthplace of the majority of my family, Cafe St. Jorge is a Portuguese-inspired cafe and bakery located in San Francisco providing organic locally-sourced fare, delicious freshly baked breads and pastries, and exceptional coffee that is real and unpretentious in a place where people can gather, relax, and enjoy some wonderful and friendly service.

There’s some neat rewards on the Kickstarter as well, like free Stumptown coffee for a year! Check it all out here.

I think there’s a portuguese cafe opening in La Lengua already, isn’t there? In the old Nervous Dog Coffee space?

Hope they won’t serve ginjinha, I don’t need to go through another bottle of Advil.

I looked at the menu and only see arroz dulce as a typical Portuguese item. Calling a panini or grilled cheese sandwich a tosta mixta shouldn’t really count.

    Where’s the bifana?

      Fermina,

I have a lot of Portuguese items on the menu and actually do not even have arroz dulce. I don’t know where you saw that on the menu…

I do have a limited kitchen without a hood, so unfortunately I will not be cooking bifanas or bacalhau, but I am getting very creative.

I do have: pasteis de nata, bolo de arroz, Portuguese sweet rolls, linguica, many Portuguese cheeses including Queijo de Sao Jorge, presunto, olives, tremocos, especie, Portuguese olive oils, sardines, and many other items that are Portuguese influenced…

This cafe is a combination of my two home – California and Portugal. If you have any other questions or want to see something on the menu, feel free to personally email me at cafestjorge@gmail.com

I love it. It seems like the only thing we have is Grubstake, which is barely Portuguese/Azorean. Andrea, hopefully this works out so I can get my Queijo de Sao Jorge fix! Boa sorte!

Can’t wait for this to open. I haven’t been back to the Azores since 1999, but have amazing memories of the sights and tastes there. I’ll have to bring meus pais by to check it out once it opens. Much support and faith in getting this going Andrea!
