Let me get out in front of this story right now and note that this sucks.

There sure have been a lot of fires in the mission ever since landlords figured out how to make it an end run around rent control

    • umm says:

You know that if a fire displaces a renter and the landlord rebuilds the unit, he has to offer it to them at the same price they were paying before, right?

      • Andy says:

This a fact. Also a fire happened not far from there three years ago. My friend lived there at the time, she traveled for a year or so, came back and moved back in, same rent.

        • Katherine says:

True that the landlord has to offer it at same price. But it can be an incredibly long time before the unit gets built back up, so in effect the tenant often has to find a new place. At which point the landlord can find a new tenant and hike up the rent. After a fire in that same area a few years ago, my friend couldn’t occupy her old unit for 2 years.

    • Making up facts is fun!

      Ha ha your stupid.

    • Valenchia says:

Really, the Ellis Act works a lot better or just paying tenants to leave.

    • Jacob says:

The fire appears to have started in a building which is owner occupied.

Pretty sure we’re still at our average of one to two every year. Can you name em?

  4. Mark says:

We lived in the blue house last year… great landlords. This is just terrible.

  5. Mark says:

The house was built in 1905 and survived unscathed to this point. I hope they don’t have to rebuild.
