This BMW that parks in front of my house on street cleaning days and doesn’t mind the tickets

Multiple weeks in a row now. I mean, it must be fun to not care about parking tickets, but the other consequence is my gutter doesn’t get swept :(

I wonder… are there any negative legal consequences to parking tickets if you pay them? I mean, obviously if you DON’T pay your parking tickets, they can eventually impound your car and/or issue a bench warrant for you, but as long as you actually pay the tickets, can you just keep getting them without any negative consequences (aside from the cost of the tickets)?

    • Joe Shlabotnik says:

I doubt it. The city must love guys like this who help fill their coffers. Downside, as pointed out, is that a section of the street doesn’t get cleaned. I’d imagine the city could care less as IMO it’s all about revenue and not cleaning streets.

    • Rudy says:

Back when I had spare time, I’d rack up the tickets and then volunteer at The Lab… they’d write the tickets off under Project 20:

      • Ariel Dovas says:

You can also get assigned to Project 20 with a misdemeanor and not have to tell the org you get assigned to that you’re not just paying off parking tickets.

  2. En-Chu Lao says:

Somebody I casually knew a long, long, long, long, long time ago handled this by writing a courteous note with a broad-tipped marker on a letter size sheet of paper, encouraging the car owner to obey the street signs. Then he heated a can of whatever shoe wax he happened to have, smeared the entire contents on the windshield and stuck the note to the warm wax.
He said this type of persuasion had a zero percent fail rate.

Dog shit works equally as well. And it assures a healthy tip for the person of color who sprays it off, before the deluxe hand wax/wash.

Anyone else notice that Audis are the new kinder, gentler choice of D-BAGS to drive instead of BMW’s?

I see them double parked in front of fire hydrants, blocking business driveways all the time around 16th/Valencia, with no hazards on and no owner to be found. And I am not kidding I have seen 4-5 in a row at one time turning onto Valencia.

Oh yeah, more often than not…no plates yet just with the temp advertising plates from the SouthBay dealership.

  4. RinSF says:

A garage space would be cheaper. I’d wager whoever owns this car has ways to avoid paying these tickets,

  5. Ag says:

Get over it. And it’s not your gutter.

    • Rudy says:

      Yes, do get over it.

But, do claim the gutter, if you choose. Allan, your mind takes the Mission and plays with it in intelligible realm. Slack from a day of blog posting, grab a broom, sweep under that BMW, sweep the sidewalk, and push that filth in the path of the street sweeper next week. Lean on that broom and waive to the driver as he (yet to see a she drive one of those things) sweeps your sad face away.

When I came home this evening, there was a big pool of dog piss on my sidewalk — I hosed it into the street and felt better.

I do this often as well, its cheaper than getting a garage, and I don’t care to get up early before work and drive car around looking for a spot. They aren’t that expensive, 4-5 tickets a month means nothing to me, especially when its a good spot

  7. Gbsf says:

Just call and have it ticketed or towed. I do this 3x a week to the assholes who park illegally on my street. A tow is like $400 and a big inconvenience to the fucking BMW shithead.

  8. scum says:

It’s a car parked in the street, who cares. The way the wind blows here the trash is back by my curb not long after the sweeper goes by anyway. And if ever catch anybody fucking with my car there will be hell to pay.

  9. dave says:

Interesting that you would point out the make of the car. Would it be different if it were a Honda?

I mean, pointing out the conspicuous wealth in the Mission is for haters, right? This blog is for lovers.

Reminds me of an old beamer one liner:

Setup – What’s the difference between a BMW and a porcupine?

Punchline – Porcupines have pricks on the _outside_

  11. Ted says:

Yeah that’s my BMW. Sorry, it’s just that with the Google Bus, I don’t need to drive that much.

  12. sev says:

those dont look like tickets, more like winning lotto receipts.

Saw a guy in a Porsche the other day with a vanity plate that read “DRUNK”. Wasn’t sure if he was saying, ‘DUI, PUI, I can afford it.” or maybe he’s a lawyer.

    • of course says:

He may be able to afford to pay for the DUI, but they’re one of the toughest crimes to get out of these days in the Bay Area. It’s also one of the few crimes in CA with mandatory minimums. The DMV suspension that accompanies an arrest for DUI is also extremely difficult to avoid if a chemical test shows .08 or higher.
