$8 toast

At a bakery in Venice, California. Avocado, pickled Fresno chiles, greens and sprouts. $8, and it was gooood. (Converts to about $5.75 SF btw.)

If you’re going to categorize any dish that has a piece of bread at the bottom as “toast,” then all pizza is also “toast.” So is any open-faced sandwich. A society’s gotta have rules, man.

  2. The common thread in all these posts, besides toasted bread, is avocado. And, when you think about it, an avocado is about the same price as a beer (a little MORE at Safeway). So it’s not surprising that these toasts in restaurants cost a bit more than beers in bars.

This one, BTW, I would buy (given alcoholic encouragement).

That looks tasty. I would probably pay $8 for that.

Isn’t that just an upside down salad with a large crouton?

That’s not toast. That’s an open faced sandwich.
