Guys, bad news. Eighty-Five Song Happy Hour is mired in crippling debt and the banks are threatening to SHUT US DOWN. If we don’t sell at least 28 gin and tonics between 6 and 9 PM, there may not be a safe public space to listen to Matthew Sweet records on a Wednesday in the Bay Area anymore. Come out and show your support on June 1, and send a clear message to Washington about what really matters.

He’s a dad, he’s a lawyer, he has his own radio show, he was in Readyville, he was born and raised in San Francisco, and he has his own monthly DJ night at one of my favorite bars of all time. Here’s what happens at Eighty-Five Song Happy Hour, which is tonight (and every first Wednesday, 6-9) at Pop’s:

And he does a great job of it. Plus he lets me make all his poster art, which is nice. RSVP and invite your pals.

UPDATE (3:04pm): Nick adds, “[N]ationally ranked Hearthstone player, former Mission Mission staff writer, sober Sally.” Oh and I just remembered he’s also one of the few people with a 2-character Twitter handle.

I just got invited to an event called “Starcraft 2 WCS Finals Live” at Pop’s on Saturday afternoon. Here is the description:

Live Broadcast of WCS Finals from Blizzcon, with big screens, audio and fun people hanging out hard.

I don’t understand what basically any of those words mean, but my pal Nick Pal is hosting this thing I think, and the things he does (like his old booze column here on Mission Mission, Eighty-Five Song Happy Hour which also takes place at Pop’s, or his super fun radio show on BFF) are always pretty cool.

And I know from experience that Pop’s is a great place for watching televised competitions.
