For the love of Mondays is a new special weekly party at Pops Bar brought to you by two of the bay areas most intrinsically in-the-groove folks, Nathan Ghio and Benezra Tergis aka DJ’s Om and Mobando. Spinning a vast majority of wax spanning myriad genres and featuring a host of local guest DJs, this weekly event seeks to bring new light to the darkness that is associated with the first day of the official work week. It the start of work week for some but also the Saturday or Sunday of many of us. So expect a mix that’s extra vibey and always listeners choice.

About your DJs:

DJ Mobando is a 3rd generation San Francisco native who comes from a large and music family. He began playing professional piano at the age of 12 and has continued to play music ranging from Salsa, Reggae, Funk and Balkan music in various groups. He has been DJ ing for about 6 years, and loves to share music from his extensive record library.

Deejay OM is Bay Area native, born in Oakland, CA, who has been a has been a successful deejay and producer for over 20 years with a deep knowledge of music which ranges from Funk, Soul, Jazz, Hip Hop, Latin, Reggae, Psych Rock, etc.. He has produced music for films (Thrasher Skateboarding videos & movie soundtracks), performed with Z-trip, Shortkut (of Invisible Scratch Pickles), The Pharcyde, Ghostface Killah and The Genius (of Wu-tang), Madlib (Stones Throw), and many others, and is a preeminent party dj who loves to make people dance.  Expect a heavy dose of musical education in his sets.

Legendary blogger and former Missionite Tony Pierce, in a post about skateboard designer Todd Francis, recalls a fearsome tale of the Mission in the ’90s:

after college when i was transferred up to Frisco i needed a place to live and he had a spare room in his apartment on 22nd and Folsom.

we had a mice problem. there was a hole in the apartment somewhere. but he had these giant snakes in this cloudy fish tank.

he let them out to roam. they ate all the mice and slithered back into their tanks.

Earlier this month a wild pig terrorized some neighbors near Dolores Park. Well, we’re happy to report the pig, whose name is Janice btw, is safe and sound and nowhere near the Mission.

SF Gate reports:

A little piggy has been adopted after she got loose and sent Good Samaritans on a hog hunt through San Francisco’s Mission District this month.

Janice the wayward piglet’s new home will be with Al Wolf, director of Sonoma County Reptile Rescue in Sebastopol, San Francisco Animal Care and Control announced Friday.

“We’re gonna miss her,” said Deb Campbell, a spokeswoman for San Francisco Animal Care and Control, the shelter where Janice has been staying. “She’s so awesome. She’s so cute.”

The 10-pound porker led a group of people on a chase on Dolores Street on March 8, running under cars to evade her pursuers and prompting a police officer to block traffic in the area. Brother Damian of the Society of Saint Francis headed the pursuit.

“We had a three-block up-and-down and up-and-down chase,” he said the day of Janice’s capture.
