<p>Once again, the creme of the San Francisco foodie fanatic crop showed up in droves this past Sunday for the latest <a href="http://sffoodwars.com/" target="_self">SF Food Wars</a> event, this time with chocolate cookies on their minds.  200 tickets had sold out in just about 3 minutes, and I was determined to see just what all the fuss was about.  Hosted this time at <a href="http://www.mighty119.com/" target="_self">Mighty</a> in the burgeoning  SOMISSPO  neighborhood (where SOMA, Mission, and Potrero meet&#8211;take that NOPA!), the event drew the City&#8217;s most creative cookie chefs (yeah, I just did that). </p>
<div id="attachment_12469" class="wp-caption alignnone" style="width: 460px"><a href="http://www.missionmission.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/choco-shortbread.jpg"><img class="size-full wp-image-12469" title="choco shortbread" src="http://www.missionmission.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/choco-shortbread.jpg" alt="" width="100%" height="auto" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Chocolate espresso shortbread? Yes please.</p></div>
<p> <span id="more-12462"></span> </p>
<p>Stepping into the club, I was immediately assaulted by the collective fragrance of delicious baked goodness.  Which was a good thing, since it was sooo dark in there that I had trouble examining all the enticing visual aspects of each creation (and taking decent pictures, so these will have to do).  Since I was looking for a wife rather than a mistress, however, the only thing that mattered to me was how good these things tasted.  And they totally came through in that respect. </p>
<p> <a href="http://www.missionmission.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/vegan-snookie-cookie1.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-12474" title="vegan snookie cookie" src="http://www.missionmission.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/vegan-snookie-cookie1.jpg" alt="" width="100%" height="auto" /></a> </p>
<p>Chocolate cookies of all sorts were purveyed, some by professionals, and some by hobbyists.  Some took the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xe7V85lA-bI" target="_self">Jersey Shore</a> theme quite seriously. </p>
<div id="attachment_12477" class="wp-caption alignnone" style="width: 460px"><a href="http://www.missionmission.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/frosted-tips.jpg"><img class="size-full wp-image-12477" title="frosted tips" src="http://www.missionmission.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/frosted-tips.jpg" alt="" width="100%" height="auto" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">frosted tips</p></div>
<div id="attachment_12476" class="wp-caption alignnone" style="width: 460px"><a href="http://www.missionmission.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/jersey-girl.jpg"><img class="size-full wp-image-12476" title="jersey girl" src="http://www.missionmission.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/jersey-girl.jpg" alt="" width="100%" height="auto" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">very seriously</p></div>
<p>Others decided to keep it simple and straightforward instead.  All proved to be delicious.  I did not envy the judges who would definitely be faced with tough decision-making and disappointed bakers.  Luckily, they thought of this beforehand and created a plethora of prizes, ranging from Judges&#8217; Picks to Peoples&#8217; Choice. </p>
<p>Your faithful correspondent, given his unquestionable affinity for cookies of all races, could not whittle his choice down past even 10 of the 20 contestants.  The PEOPLE spoke for him, though, and selected one of his faves:  The Chocolate Crackle, pictured below. </p>
<div id="attachment_12478" class="wp-caption alignnone" style="width: 460px"><a href="http://www.missionmission.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/peoples-choice.jpg"><img class="size-full wp-image-12478" title="people's choice" src="http://www.missionmission.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/peoples-choice.jpg" alt="" width="100%" height="auto" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">the cookie paradox implies that a good sign of the best cookie is the absence of said cookie</p></div>
<p> Once all the prizes had been awarded, the wonderfully presiding Jeannie Choe announced next May&#8217;s competition:  Amuse Brunch, or brunch in a bite.  No word yet on whether Boogaloos and St. Francis Diner will finally square off to see who rules the Mission brunch scene, but we were assured there would be no Jersey Shore nonsense this time around. </p>
<div id="attachment_12480" class="wp-caption alignnone" style="width: 460px"><a href="http://www.missionmission.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/ed-hardy.jpg"><img class="size-full wp-image-12480" title="ed hardy" src="http://www.missionmission.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/ed-hardy.jpg" alt="" width="100%" height="auto" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">your moment of zen</p></div>
