    get thee a sodastream

or drink the Hetch-Hetchy still from the tap. it’s better for you and more-or-less free. think of that magnificient valley that was flooded, just so you & your neighbors could stay hydrated and clean. it’s like drinking the tears of the sierra club and the native tribes… deliciousness

Sodastream all the way! I should buy another just to put in my car, maybe one for my office too!

    • Geno says:

      How do you spell Yuppie?

      • D. Jon Moutarde says:

        Young Urban Professional.

I doubt that anyone who fits that description reads this blog, or cares to waste the time to post to it.

        • Brillo says:

Young and urban seems like a given. So everyone on this site is a young urban amateur?

        • Julio says:

I’d bet almost 100% of the posters meet that description. Most people around here are likely employed in professional jobs and are making an above average amount for their age.

          • D. Jon Moutarde says:

So who are all these clowns who try to talk “street” while complaining about condos and yuppies and expensive drinks in the comments here? Self-hating yuppies?

We can agree to disagree about the limit of youth (no more than 30) and the meaning of “professional” in this context. Cubicle drones are not “professional”, however white-collar they may be.

          • Julio says:

That’s what the professional in professional means. It’s not a subjective comment on how appropriate people behave at work, it’s a class of jobs. White collar jobs are “professional” jobs.

          • Brillo says:

“Self-hating yuppies?” Bingo. That’s as good a definition of “hipster” as I’ve heard.

          • D. Jon Moutarde says:

Don’t misread me; I’m not talking about behavior, I’m talking about people who pursue a profession. Doctors, lawyers, teachers, investment bankers, etc., etc.

Not people who have a lot of time to post blog comments from their work computers, especially to complain about the yuppification of Valencia.

          • Julio says:

“Yuppism… is not definable entirely by income or class. Rather, it is a late-20th-century cultural phenomenon of self-absorbed young professionals, earning good pay, enjoying the cultural attractions of sophisticated urban life and thought, and generally out of touch with, indeed antithetical to, most of the challenges and concerns of a far less well-off and more parochial Middle America. For the yuppie male a well-paying job in law, finance, academia, or consulting in a cultural hub, hip fashion, cool appearance, studied poise, elite education, proper recreation and fitness, and general proximity to liberal-thinking elites, especially of the more rarefied sort in the arts, are the mark of a real man.” – Victor Davis Hanson

Sounds like the Google/FB/Finance turned start-up kids to me. And yes, D., yuppies can waste time at work, believe it or not.

I can swear to you that I am neither young or professional. Scum seems likely to be the same. Herr Doktor, I would guess, is not young… perhaps professional, but perhaps not. GG seems to be the most likely professional, but no longer young, and teetering on the brink of non-urban. Eric… eh, who knows? Most of the posters here, they don’t give up enough information about themselves in their comments for anyone to even care about what they have to say. They come and they go. That’s probably not all I have to say on the subject, but that’s all I got right now.

      • Geno says:

Looks like there are a bunch of different spellings, Ha!

  3. Poop head says:

MORE GREAT CONTENT THANKS FOR THE GREAT POST.

  4. Helen Tseng says:

Wait, did Nick just overhear himself and Kat?

  5. Brillo says:

can’t overhear it if you’re not already shopping there yourself.

    • DomPara says:

Some people are there only so they can get directions on how to get away from there.

  6. scum says:

Bi-white, for your everyday yuppie needs.

  7. TJ says:

I tend to just buy cases and cases of seltzer water at the big box grocery store. It’s way cheaper than Pellegrino, easier to dispose of the cans since they can be crushed, and unlike sparkling mineral water doesn’t have any sodium in it (which is already way too prevalent in my diet).

  8. sictypercenttogether says:

this is pretty cute actually. maybe it really is like *a thing* with them.
