Tower in HDR

Is it just me, or do HDR photos look like they are screenshots from upcoming Xbox games?

Zul.is.it has this and other amazing San Francisco HDR shots on his Flickr.

Looks more like BioShock to me.

I find most HDR shots to be lurid and waaaay over the top. I don’t particularly care for them. On the other hand, I know someone who does outstanding HDR work, much more subtle and realistic than this example, and I think he deserves to get some wider recognition for his skills.

What people call HDR shots aren’t really HDR per se, but *TONEMAPPED* HDR images. You can tonemap anything, really, but HDR images don’t reveal the limited dynamic range of the source.

It’s like autotune for images, and you really notice it when it turns the source to sh!t, as in this image.
