Dandelion is the new chocolate shop on Valencia. This Valentine’s Day, they’re doing something fun:

On Valentines day from 12pm to 5pm, Pam DeLuco from Shotwell Paper Mill (www.shotwellpapermill.com) will be offering free to the public the opportunity to letterpress print valentine cards on paper made from recycled Dandelion cacao sacks. Each person can add to the phrase: “I love it when….”

Dandelion will have Valentine boxes and treats inside the store.

A young man (who wishes to remain anonymous for now) wrote in with a romantic conundrum. He encountered a very special babe a couple weeks back and failed to make a move. Rather than go to usual Missed Connections route, he drew us this haunting portrait and asked that we publish it with the following message:

Who goes to the movies alone on a Tuesday afternoon? Especially, to the Opera Plaza, exclusive destination of retirees. Apparently though, this knockout goes too, and pays in exact change. If you’re out there, I really wish I’d had the guts to introduce myself. This drawing bears almost no resemblance, but the red cardigan is accurate.

She doesn’t want to reveal her name, which is understandable, because she’s about to fiercely criticize almost all of her past techie dates and assert that she will avoid them in the future. She knows what she’s talking about, she says; she has not only dated a handful of techies, but has also worked for a tech company.

“They have a lot of money and are very stingy all the same. They think that what they’re doing is the most important thing in the world. They schedule girlfriends the way they would schedule meetings.” She defines them as “socially awkward,” a term she is not the only one to use.

Bethany and Jake met at an American Tripps party last year, and they hit it off like crazy, and everyone that knows them agrees they’re staggeringly perfect for each other. Friday night, Jake got up on the big main stage at Rickshaw Stop and popped the question. Bethany said yes and the whole crowd cheered (and I almost cried). Best wishes, you guys! I don’t think dating a cop is the best direction to take at your age. You’re going to have a bunch of years later on in life to feign interest with the cop-soulmate of your nightmares about how shitty the new X-ray guy at city hall is, or how much of a pussy Ramirez was for ordering a Greek salad at lunch. In the meantime, I think it would be best if you tried out guys who talk about the Speak and Spell they circuit-bent to sound like the robot chick from “Small Wonder” more than how your day was. Or perhaps the dude in his mid-thirties who holds grudges against you for not giving a fuck about Nigerian hip-hop.
