The new Valencia St. bike shop: "Mission Bicycle"

The new Valencia St. bike shop: "Mission Bicycle"

Mission Loc@l recently started an interesting segment about bike shops in the Mission in response to the recent opening of Mission Bicycle.  The teaser to their Pedal Revolution piece hints that there might be some drama between Valencia Cyclery and Mission Bikes.  Unfortunately, the fine folks at Pedal Rev were not asked any direct questions about their new competition, so we’ll have to wait for the Valencia Cyclery piece to find out all the juicy details.

No Bicycles at Carnaval

At a sidestreet entrance at 21st:

Bouncer Man: No.  Get that out of here.  No bikes.
1: Oh, it only has one-gear, it’s fine.
B.M. – Seriously, you cannot bring it in here.
1: Okay, where can I bring it in?
B.M. – Not here.
1: I know I cannot bring it in here, but what entrance can I bring it in?
B.M. – Not here.
Stranger: You can sneak it in at 16th.
B.M. – No!  That’s not true!  You can’t bring that in here!

So what other ridiculous stuff were people not allowed in with?  Reader Ms Heidi reports that ice cream was a no-no.  We have also received a tip that a resident of 19th and Alabama (a block east of the festival) had to show her ID to walk her dog.

In the Trees

Tossing children’s stuff in trees is all the rage these days.  eviloars found this on 100 block Capp:

capp-st-bearIsaias also pointed out this discarded bike on 700 block:

"Whoa, those fly anodized cranks would look so baller on the Colnago I fished out a dumpster last week!"

Mission Bikes Grand Opening This Weekend

Mission Bikes opens its new shop on Valencia today. Says our good buddy Monty:

They’re going to have beer and vegan food n’ stuff.

They’re definitely legitimate. I wrenched for 4 years before moving to the yay and helped them out when they were forming. They’re running a pretty solid operation these days.

Bilingual Bike To Work Day Continues, In Chinatown

chinese

Stopped by the Spanish/English Energizer Station this morning, didn’t see a lot of Spanish going on, but Meli said there’d been a bit. More importantly, they had three varieties of Dynamo Donuts donuts, of which I tried 100%.

This evening, I plan to stop by the Chinese/English Energizer Station in Chinatown, which is being staffed by our friend Pauline. Pauline’s been practicing her spiel all day, so it’ll be good.

Also, there’s the Bike Away From Work Party & Fashion Show at Rickshaw Stop at 6. It promises to feature: “Sexy cyclists strutting the lastest in urban biking style!”

Bilingual Bike To Work Day

Great news for all you Spanish speakers out there: this year’s Bike To Work Day will feature the first Spanish/English bilingual Energizer Station in the history of the tradition. Even better, it will be staffed by Meli from Bikes and the City. So whether you speak Spanish/English, Spanish/Spanish or English/English, stop by and say hi. (And get your tote bag and bagel and banana.)
