Looks like we should all try some Baby Blues Barbecue barbecue. And then maybe have a People’s Donuts donut. Also, Mission Street Food is still going strong.

Our buddy Becca (whom you may remember as the author of such beloved Mission Mission posts as The Phonebooth Actually Very Pleasant Before Dark and Construction Camp on Valencia Street) recently left the Mission for greener pastures. She’s mixing business, pleasure, activism and maybe some higher learning on an extended tour around Central America.

Fortunately, Becca’s documenting her adventure on her blog Travel Maven, Large Jet (I think the title is some sort of travel writer injoke). Yesterday, she talked a bit about a few weeks she spent with an NGO called MayaPedal in Guatemala.

MayaPedal designs and builds “bicycle machines” for use in areas of the world where electricity and mechanization isn’t yet quite freeflowing. Becca got to make hot sauce with the blender bike (!), peanut butter with the mill bike (!), and wash her clothes with the laundry bike! (!!) So like, do you have to get a pro cyclist in there if you want to puree, or your muddy jeans need permanent press, or you don’t like your peanut butter chunky?

This morning I was lamenting how we don’t have as much action in the bathrooms category as we used to, and then boom Carlos Reyes posts this highlight from last night’s Thrasher Magazine Skater of the Year Party. Ice Cream People is one of my favorite blogs. They showcase nothing but fine depictions of various beings made of ice cream. Some are cartoonish, some are eerily lifelike, all are delightful. And today, they posted my submission! Link.

I hate to keep harping on how great Airfix Kits are, but, really, anybody that likes anything at all about music should give them a whirl, pronto. And c’mon, here they’re sandwiched between two other formidable acts at an afternoon matinee at The Knockout called Christmas Disco!? Impossible to resist.

More than 30 artists were each given a hoop and directed to make something good within its ovular confines. The results (including Robert Howard’s Bricks) are on display starting tonight at Soap Gallery.

So [I am Snowmiser: Walken in a Winter Wonderland] is an awesome, silly, ridiculous Christmas Cabaret starring Sean Owens as Christopher Walken. The Premise is that Walken was originally cast in all of those [censored] (but we never say the name, they love their copyright) Christmas Specials. He’s telling his memoirs to an interviewer/biographer person (Sherilyn Connelly) and this comes out. Musical Memory Hilarity ensues.
