New Year’s Day in the Mission means brunch with Rice Paper Scissors!

It’s my favorite New Year’s Day tradition ever, and possibly my favorite Mission holiday tradition ever, AND this year it sounds like it’s gonna be even better than ever:

RICE PAPER SCISSORS NEW YEAR’S BRUNCH 2015

11:00 AM – 3:00 PM

On January 1st, Rice Paper Scissors is hosting their annual New Year’s Day Brunch.

It also marks their one-year anniversary at Brick & Mortar Music Hall, where they serve lunch on weekdays.

On the menu is Ma Po Scramble (scrambled eggs, ma po tofu, grilled toast), Steak & Eggs Banh Mi (featuring housemade oyster sauce) and Crab Imperial Rolls because ‘tis the season.

New Year’s specials include Char Siu Pineapple Buns, which is what happens when a cross a pork bun and pineapple bun as well as Coconut Rice Pudding Fritters with pineapple and a coconut jam.

Soup’s on with two hangover cures: Hanoi-Style Beef Pho and Canh Ga, a hearty soup with roasted rice, chicken, Chinese greens and fried shallots.

There will also be Detox and Retox drinks: Vietnamese Kale Smoothie (in case you’re wondering – the condensed milk makes it Vietnamese) and of course Tecates and mimosas to keep you nice and buzzy.

Crab Imperial Rolls – $8
fried rice paper rolls with crab, shrimp and taro. served with lettuce, herbs and nuoc cham

Char Siu Pineapple Buns – $6
A pork bun and a pineapple bun made out last night

Braised Buddha’s Pockets – $8
yuba sheets stuffed with tofu, mushrooms and lily buds in a shiitake sauce

Coconut Rice Pudding Fritters – $7
fried rice pudding dessert with pineapple and a coconut jam. sweet and savory, fried and warm.

Mains

Steak & Eggs Banh Mi – $11
grilled hanger steak with housemade oyster sauce and two fried eggs, with sauteed green garlic and grilled onions with housemade mayo, chicken liver pate, cucumbers, cilantro and jalapeños

Breakfast Banh Mi – $9
two fried eggs and cha lua (Vietnamese ham) with housemade pate, mayo, daikon pickles, cucumbers, cilantro and jalapeños

Vegetarian Breakfast Banh Mi – $9
two fried eggs with housemade pate, mayo, daikon pickles, cucumbers and cilantro

scrambled eggs, pork, tofu, spicy Szechuan peppercorns served with grilled toast

Pho Bo – Hanoi-Style Beef Pho – $10
thinly sliced sirloin with fresh rice noodles in a six-hour broth. served with shaved onions, cilantro and jalapeños.
